Zoledronic acid is a medication that belongs to the class of medicines known as bisphosphonates. It is used to treat Paget’s disease and osteoporosis. Zoledronic acid works by inhibiting osteoclasts, which are responsible for breaking down and reabsorbing bone. It also inhibits increased osteoclastic activity and the release of calcium by the skeleton induced by tumors. This helps to slow bone breakdown, increase bone density, and decrease the amount of calcium released from the bones into the blood.
Zoledronic acid strengthens bones and is used for the treatment or prevention of osteoporosis. It works by inhibiting osteoclasts, the cells responsible for breaking down and reabsorbing bone through a process known as bone resorption. Additionally, it helps prevent increased osteoclastic activity and the release of calcium from the skeleton, which can be induced by tumors. Zoledronic acid belongs to a class of medications known as bisphosphonates.
